FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky reported 361 new coronavirus cases and 12 more virus-related deaths Wednesday as the number of Kentuckians vaccinated against COVID-19 approaches 2.1 million.

The statewide rate of positive cases was down slightly at 2.06%.

The number of Kentuckians receiving at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine has surpassed 2,094,000, Gov. Andy Beshear said.

The governor recently announced the state is offering $1 million prizes and college scholarships in hopes of enticing more people to get the shots. Three Kentucky adults will win $1 million prizes and 15 students ages 12 to 17 will be awarded full-ride scholarships to a Kentucky public university, college, technical or trade school.

The offer is available to Kentucky residents already vaccinated and those who decide to get the vaccine before the drawings.

All of the state’s coronavirus-related capacity restrictions will end on Friday.

Kentucky's death toll from COVID-19 has surpassed 7,120.

Nearly 280 virus patients are hospitalized in Kentucky, including 88 in intensive care units.
