Lindsey Vonn never got a chance to defend the downhill gold medal she won in Vancouver because she was injured for the 2014 Winter Olympics. But in Pyeongchang she is skiing with a differnt mission: win for grandpa. She'll get her first chance at the Pyeongchang Games in the Super-G.
Well...after 8 years of waiting I finally get a chance to compete in the Olympics again. This time I have a more important mission; win for my late Grandpa. He will be watching from the best seat in the house, hopefully looking out for me and guiding me down the mountain. I will leave it all out on the hill tomorrow and have no regrets. I love you Grandpa. Wish me luck(start time is 11am here so it’s live on nbc at 9pm est. I am bib #1 so don’t be late!)
Vonn's grandfather died in November, and she's been dedicating all her races to him.
Dear Grandpa, I still can’t believe you’re gone. No words can describe how much you mean to me and how much i love you. I wish i had more time with you but i will cherish the memories we had. You taught me to be tough, to be kind, and above all, to ski fast. Now, every time i ski down the mountain I know you’ll be there with me. I’m proud to be your granddaughter and I will think of you always. I will race for you in Korea and I will try as hard as I can to win for you. Please look out for me. I love you Grandpa. Lindsey
Vonn is scheduled to go for gold in the downhill Wednesday.
