IDRIS ELBA RECOVERED AFTER COVID-19 INFECTION

UNDATED (AP) — Idris Elba says his bout with the new coronavirus has taught him that “the world doesn’t tick on your time.” The British actor and his wife were both stricken with COVID-19 — but are better now. He says having the illness was “definitely scary and unsettling.” Elba says most of his symptoms were mild, as is the case for most of those who come down with the new coronavirus. For others, the disease causes serious breathing problems or other complications — and can kill.

COVID-19 SPECIAL RAISES $128 MILLION-PLUS

NEW YORK (AP) — It wasn’t a telethon. But that didn’t stop Lady Gaga’s TV special from raising lots of money. The Saturday event featured a bunch of celebrities, all working remotely, in the “One World: Together At Home” concert. It raised more than $128 million for the World Health Organization. During the eight-hour broadcast, both Beyoncé and Alicia Keys mentioned how the virus has disproportionately affected African Americans.

BABYFACE, TEDDY RILEY TRY VIRTUAL MUSICAL BATTLE AGAIN TODAY

NEW YORK (AP) — Fans of Babyface and Teddy Riley hope the third time will be the charm as the two music producers will try again to launch their musical battle tonight. The event was first scuttled when Babyface was ill with COVID-19. They tried again Saturday — but technical glitches foiled that, frustrating the more than 40,000 who had tuned in. They’ll give it another shot tonight. The event will be on Instagram Live.

DAVID GUETTA PERFORMS FOR BALCONY-BOUND FANS

MIAMI (AP) — David Guetta (GET’-ah) says wanted to bring people together by performing a rooftop performance in Miami on Saturday. But he was a little too successful in that regard. The Miami Herald reports police had to swoop in to break up groups gathered on the sidewalks below as Guetta performed. Florida has banned groups of more than 10 people during the coronavirus crisis. The event also drew quite a crowd online — and that required no police action. The benefit drew more than 9 million views on Facebook and nearly 2 million on YouTube. Guetta says it raised $700,000 — money that will go toward feeding families in South Florida and to the World Health Organization.

MEGHAN AND PRINCE HARRY BOYCOTTING TABLOIDS

LONDON (AP) — Few people would want to keep having dealings with people who made their life miserable. That also applies to Megan and Prince Harry. The couple says they will no longer cooperate with several British tabloids. They have written the editors of The Sun, Daily Mail, Daily Express and Daily Mirror to say they will shun them. The couple feels victimized by what they describe as “distorted, false or invasive” stories — and say that they will no longer “offer themselves up as currency for an economy of click bait and extortion.”
