CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia's Democratic Party will hold its county and state conventions online due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

State party chairwoman Belinda Biafore said Thursday the decision “was not taken lightly.”

Participants can complete the county convention form starting Friday. The deadline is May 12 to register and to run to be a delegate to the state convention. Biafore said in a statement that those running for state convention delegate must pledge to a presidential candidate.

Participants and state convention delegate hopefuls must be registered Democrats.

The application process has not changed for delegates to the national Democratic convention. That deadline is May 14.
