IN THE NEWS: CONTRACT TRACING TECHNOLOGY

UNDATED (AP) — Wanna keep track of how the coronavirus is spreading? There are apps for that — and Apple and Google now say they have the technology to work with those apps. The tech firms that make operating systems for most smartphones have harnessed technology to help notify people if they might have been exposed to the virus. The companies say 22 countries and several U.S. states plan to build voluntary phone apps around their software. The apps use Bluetooth to tell when an app user has been near another user who later tests positive for the virus.

IN THE NEWS: AT&T AGREES TO STOP “5G” DESIGNATION

UNDATED (AP) — For a time, some AT&T customers have seen “5G” on their phone screens. But that will stop. AT&T says it will no longer boast about what it calls “5G Evolution,” now that the Better Business Bureau has called the term misleading. AT&T and other carriers in the U.S. have 5G networks. But in late 2018, AT&T said its “5G Evolution” was widespread and put a “5GE” icon on phones on that network. But it wasn’t 5G, just existing 4G with small speed boosts. Most phones aren’t even 5G capable.
