VETERAN ACTRESS, KIEFER SUTHERLAND’S MOM DIES
TORONTO (AP) — Kiefer Sutherland says his mom has died. The veteran actor says Shirley Douglas died yesterday from complications due to pneumonia. However, Sutherland says his mom’s death is not related to COVID-19. Douglas was 86 — and an actress in her own right. During her career, she worked with notable directors, including Stanley Kubrick.
CNN’S BROOKE BALDWIN TESTS POSITIVE FOR CORONAVIRUS
NEW YORK (AP) — A second CNN anchor has now tested positive for coronavirus. Brooke Baldwin revealed her diagnosis Friday, three days after Chris Cuomo (KWOH’-moh) said he had COVID-19. In her Instagram post, Baldwin said she suddenly began getting fever, chills and body aches Thursday afternoon — and a test confirmed she was infected. Baldwin posts she’s been practicing social distancing and all the other things medical experts have us to do, yet, as she put it, “Still — it got me,” she said. No word on whether she will continue her show. Cuomo has been doing his show from home, sequestered in the basement.
Most people who get coronavirus suffer mild to moderate symptoms and recover. But for some, especially those who are older and have certain pre-existing conditions, it can be fatal.
ACTRESS PATRICIA BOSWORTH DIES, HAD CORONAVIRUS
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Longtime actress Patricia Bosworth is dead, a victim of coronavirus. Bosworth was 86 — and during her career, starred alongside Audrey Hepburn and later wrote biographies of stars like Marlon Brando and Montgomery Clift. Bosworth’s stepdaughter tells The New York Times the actress died of pneumonia brought on by the virus this past Thursday in New York.
TRIBECA FEST GOES ONLINE AFTER POSTPONEMENT
NEW YORK (AP) — Like South by Southwest before it, the Tribeca Film Festival has tweaked its event after postponing it because of the coronavirus pandemic. Organizers say they will make much of its program available online. The films will be online for either the public or film industry around the same time the festival would have been held. The 19th Tribeca was set for April 15-26.
ACTOR LOGAN WILLIAMS DIES, WAS 16
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A young actor who was in the CW series “The Flash” has died. Logan Williams was just 16. His agent says Williams died this past Thursday. The agent says the teen actor’s sudden death is a “shock,” but didn’t provide a cause. Williams played in “The Flash” as the young Barry Allen.
DISNEY FURLOUGHS WORKERS DUE TO CORONAVIRUS
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The coronavirus is affecting people who work for Disney. The company says it will start laying off workers. Disney says the first furloughs will begin April 19 — and will involve workers whose jobs aren’t necessary right now. That will likely include many of those who work at Disney parks in California and Florida. Disney has closed the parks — and says it has no idea when they can reopen.

UNDATED (AP) — Game on? President Donald Trump says he hopes pro sports will be back in action “as soon as we can.” Trump met with several U.S. sports league heads to discuss resuming games. Speaking at a White House briefing, Trump said he wants to see fans “back in the arenas.” A source with direct knowledge of the phone chat says Trump believes the NFL season will begin Sept. 10, as scheduled and fans will be let in. But California governor Gavin Newsom says he’s “not anticipating” that Trump’s aspiration will come to pass.
