AMBER HEARD ON STAND FOR SECOND DAY OF JOHNNY DEPP'S LIBEL TRIAL
LONDON (AP) — Johnny Depp's ex-wife Amber Heard is denying that she made up injuries to make the actor look bad. Heard was on the stand today for a second day of what's expected to be four days of questioning. In testimony yesterday, Heard said Depp abused her physically and verbally during rages fueled by drugs and booze. Depp is suing The Sun tabloid for libel for labeling him a “wife beater.”
KANYE WEST MISSES DEADLINE TO GET ON S.C. PRESIDENTIAL BALLOT
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — All talk and no action? That seems to be the case for Kanye West so far — at least when it comes to his presidential bid. The rapper held a rally Sunday in South Carolina — with the goal of collecting enough signatures to get on the state's ballot. But elections officials say no paperwork was submitted before yesterday's deadline. Meanwhile West's comments at the rally and online are again raising questions about his mental and emotional stability. Sunday, he tearfully spoke about his late mom — and said he considered aborting his daughter. Last night on Twitter, West was riffing again, claiming his wife Kim Kardashian was planning to have him hospitalized.
“TENET,” LAST MAJOR RELEASE, YANKED FROM RELEASE SCHEDULE
NEW YORK (AP) — It's clear the coronavirus isn't going anywhere soon. And neither is the last hope for Hollywood to release a major movie to theaters this summer. Warner Bros. dashed those faint hopes when it announced “Tenet” won't be out next month. It was set for Aug. 12 — but now Warner says it won't even try to set a new date. The studio says it may even back off from a traditional global day-and-day release for “Tenet,” depending on how the pandemic plays out the rest of this year.
ALEX TREBEK'S BOOK DUE OUT TODAY
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Alex Trebek says he expects that come February, he will have survived two years since being diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer. And he says his doctors agree. For now, though, he has two milestones at hand: one today, one tomorrow. Tomorrow, Trebek turns 80. And today, he releases his memoir. The book is titled “The Answer Is ... Reflections On My Life” — Trebek says proceeds will go to charity.
CHRIS WALLACE GETS KUDOS FOR TRUMP INTERVIEW
NEW YORK (AP) — President Donald Trump once tweeted that Fox News anchor Chris Wallace couldn't measure up to his late dad Mike Wallace as a journalist. That didn't age well. Chris Wallace is getting high marks for his interview with Trump on Sunday. Former CNN Washington bureau chief Frank Sesno teaches a college class on interviewing — and says Wallace did “A-plus" work. Repeatedly, on issues from the coronavirus to presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden — Wallace fact-checked Trump in real time, leaving the president flustered. At least twice, Trump asked aides to fetch evidence to back his statements, only to find his comments weren't true.
FOX STARS ACCUSED OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT IN LAWSUIT
NEW YORK (AP) — Three Fox News hosts — including two in its prime-time lineup — are now accused of sexual harassment. The claims are from Cathy Areu, a frequent on-air guest. Her suit, filed yesterday, says Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson and Howard Kurtz engaged in actions that amounted to harassment. She says Carlson told her after a 2018 appearance he was staying at a hotel in New York — without his wife and kids — and she was welcome to visit. Areu says Hannity offered $100 as a bounty to male staffers to take her on a date. And last year, she says Kurtz asked her to a hotel room to discuss a full-time job at Fox. When she asked to meet elsewhere with a third person along, Kurtz declined. Fox says it had an outside law firm look into Areu's claims — and found them "false, patently frivolous and utterly devoid of any merit.”
ABC DITCHES VETERAN EXECUTIVE OVER HANDLING OF RACIAL ISSUES
LOS ANGELES (AP) — ABC News has canned a longtime executive over inequality issues. The ouster of Barbara Fedida comes after a probe found she made racially insensitive remarks and “managed in a rough manner.” A memo sent to ABC News staffers on her departure was obtained by The Associated Press. ABC has had no comment on the story — and there's no immediate reaction from Fedida's reps.
