It's been quite a weekend at the Winter X Games for freestyle skier Henrik Harlaut of Sweden. First, he won gold in big air. Then, another in slopestyle. On top of all that, he got to meet rapper Method Man. Harlaut had a big grin on his face on the podium stand and an even bigger grin in the picture with the entertainer.
"UNREAL!" he posted on his Instagram account.
Harlaut will be a favorite ski slopestyle at the Winter Games in South Korea. As for big air, well, it's not quite an Olympic event yet. Maybe down the road.
The 26-year-old is certainly an interesting and entertaining person. At the Winter Games in Sochi, he skied with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle gloves and trousers around his knees, which fell down during the qualifying round in what was described as a "wardrobe malfunction." He used to have long, long flowing dreadlocks, but those have been sheared down.
He's full of energy, which translates into his riding. He's now won six Winter X gold medals.
A little background: He was born in Stockholm and began skiing when he was 2 years old. His passion early on, though, was ice hockey. Then, he saw a big air competition and, as he explained on his website, he was hooked: "I saw the competition and was like, 'I am done with ice hockey, this is what I wanna do for the rest of my life, this is what I’m gonna put all my effort and dedication into.'"
He's been in a lot of ski movies.
Check out his videos on his site sometime: The one where he bangs off a stop sign and keeps on riding is particularly cool.
