The fourth man heading down the mountain in the Olympic giant slalom, Austria's Manuel Feller, lost his balance approaching the next-to-last gate, fell onto his backside and skidded across the finish line and into the orange safety netting lining the course.

The eighth racer, Italy's Luca de Aliprandini, made a similar mistake in a similar spot and he crashed, too, injuring his left leg. He was skiing fast enough to move into second place at that point before landing in the snow.
