MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — Volunteers will be out cleaning up trash from Vermont's landscape on Saturday during the state's annual Green Up Day.
“I started getting calls very early, people wanting bags and wanting to get out, they are very committed,” Kate Alberghini, Green Up Vermont’s executive director, told WCAX-TV.
Even last year early in the pandemic 14,000 volunteers picked up over 241 tons of trash, she said. This year, over a dozen towns have asked for extra bags to give out. This is the event’s 51st year.
“We are still under that same realm of caution with social distance and masks and not doing the whole celebratory things we normally get to do on Green Up Day,” Alberghini said.
